Found Forest Floor

For Small Press Day 2016, I've collected some of the pages from the book I'm working on for Abstract Editions and called it 'Found Forest Floor'. I've printed off a few versions in various grades of quality and individuality to give out at the various London stores I'll be scooting between on the day, but there's a freely available PDF version for download here: LINK

Here's some of the pages included. Maybe of note is that where for the past few years I've been recreating pre-existing pages for the most part the pages in Found Forest Floor are all my own work, in that I've dictated the page layout and flows etc. Although having said that I've just noticed that the first two pages I've selected as previews here are reworkings, from 'Doc Dino' and 'The Complete Don Quixote' respectively, which is almost embarrassing.

Comics Conference

Here is an opportunity to present a paper about Abstract Comics, unfortunately I can't make it.

This has just been posted in the Laydeez do Comics emailed newsletter. Enjoy their blog @ https://laydeezdocomics.wordpress.com.

Abstract Comics
This is a call out to creators of abstract comics who want to share their work with other like-minded people. Abstract comics are wordless abstract books, mini-comics zines and wall-hung artworks that use comics conventions to present abstract subject matter across a series of panels and pages with the intention of creating a narrative rhythm, rather than an identifiable story. They came to my attention when I found the seminal book Abstract Comics: the Anthology by Andrei Molotiu (2009).I was captivated that I had found a host of new luminaries that I could appreciate and admire. If you are another abstract comics artist please make yourself known through the Abstract Comics Blog http://abstractcomics.blogspot.com.  Happily the number of women abstract comics artists is steadily increasing, so come join this global phenomenon.
Kym Tabulo is the author of The Drift of Impure Thoughts - an abstract Graphic Novel (2014) and What Would Paul Klee Say – an abstract comics book (2016) at https://abstractsequentialart.com.

The Intercorstal: 683 (Kickstarter launch)

A few months ago I posted a sequence of images from 'The Intercorstal: 683', an anthology comic, albeit with ever page completed by me. I've just launched a Kickstarter campaign to get it printed, which can be found here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/grthink/the-intercorstal-683

I'm incredibly proud of '683', and early reaction from proof readers and reviewers has been really positive. Here's a few of the preview pages, from sequences 1, 3 and 5 respectively.

collaborative graphic novel: illiterature. issue v.

these 2 pages are from illiterature. issue v. the graphic novel. (Puddles of Sky Press, 2015).

It's a collaborative graphic novel with original work provided by 15 artists or poets (Nelson Ball, Gary Barwin, derek beaulieu, Amanda Earl, Claudio Ghirardo, Faye Harnest, Gene Kannenberg Jr, Mark Laba, Mark Laliberte, Chris Piuma, sven staelens, Lin Tarczynski, andrew topel, Dale Tracy & Nico Vassilakis), & a lot of engineering by the editor, Michael e. Casteels.

Only some of the pages are strictly abstract. It's an unusual reading experience, which I'm still working with. Some pages require more than one way of reading: A frame full of text, then some visual poetry made of stacks of letters, then some asemic symbols, abstract shapes or small pictures. A seasonal poem at the beginning of each chapter adds further food for thought.

Unlike a kick in the eye (in which Lin & Nico also took part), in this project, some artists' pages were cut up & rearranged by the editor.

Another collaborative graphic novel which I should mention, which is not abstract, is Nelson, by 54 UK artists. Creating a sense of unity with so many styles is an interesting challenge.

Last reminder: tomorrow, March 15, is the deadline for submissions to Abstract Comics volume 2

Grid Attacks Grid by William Cardini

"These comics explore the interaction between different grid patterns and comic layouts. The panel gutters are where the grids collide but each quadrilateral of the grid is also a panel." - William Cardini

Reminder: deadline for submitting to "Abstract Comics" vol. 2 is approaching.

The deadline is March 15.

And, OK, here's the deal. I am enough of a realist to realize there will be late submissions. There always are. And if they're good, I would of course want to consider them; on the other hand, I do have to set some ground rules. SO. If you are planning to submit but think your submission might be late, email me to show me what you have so far by March 15. (Again, links only, no attachments. And include "LATE SUBMISSION" in the subject line, just as all full submissions should include "SUBMISSION" in the subject line.) No late submissions that I have not been informed of before March 15 will be considered. And the more advanced your piece is, the better chances it has.
