Abstract comics by G#ROM

I've been browsing through the webcomics site Grandpapier, and I just found the comic/series "384" by someone called G#ROM. The pages are all filled with dozens of tiny panels. Some of them are fragmented representational imagery, but the sheer volume of them starts to bleed out any real meaning, creating an abstract pattern. Some of the pages (2 and 4) are more purely abstract comics (page 4 is rather reminiscent of some of Andrei's work).

The same artist's "Recadrage" (reframing) is also an abstract comic, which has a wonderful physical/material presence to it.

  1. Those are great! I especially like 384 P. 4.

(By the way, what is it with all these artists naming their comics after the number of panels in them? Nudge nudge...)

"Recadrage" looks like it could have been done with an Etch-A-Sketch. Which is a good thing in my book, I love my Etch-A-Sketches.

  2. mad bananas!
    = )

    thanx for posting!

reminds me greatly of bp nichol's comix...

...i kind of like how this particular piece
approaches a kind of "conceptual abstract comics",
it's really difficult to define things,
like how this could operate successfully
    in several different genres...

...this is just the tip of the iceberg for
abstract comics, i think now that more people
are aware of it as a medium & begin working
in that medium...the big leafy tree is gonna
    bear much juicy fruit fersure,...

    ...it's wide open!
