Found Forest Raw - free download

Last July the abstract graphic novel that I made with the poet Erik Blagsvedt came out -- it was called Found Forest Floor and was a 250 page mix of my art work and his poetry. (you can get a copy here, if you're interested: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1548861669/ref=cm_sw_su_dp)

As a companion to that book, and also as a standalone comic, I've put together 'Found Forest Raw' which is made up of the more traditional comics pages that I made at the start of the project but for the most part got abandoned. I really like most of them, so am sharing it as wide as I can.

The Intercorstal: 683 (Kickstarter launch)

A few months ago I posted a sequence of images from 'The Intercorstal: 683', an anthology comic, albeit with ever page completed by me. I've just launched a Kickstarter campaign to get it printed, which can be found here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/grthink/the-intercorstal-683

I'm incredibly proud of '683', and early reaction from proof readers and reviewers has been really positive. Here's a few of the preview pages, from sequences 1, 3 and 5 respectively.

Abstract comic by a student of Brandl's

As I wrote below, I have some new Abstract and Gallery Comics from the Art Academy of Liechtenstein Foundation Course class students who study with me (Mark Staff Brandl). I'll put a few up directly as there was only a link before.

This one is by Rebecca Ospelt.

Seizure

An animation of this six page comic.
The original comic was an experiment in exploring several ideas.
Breaking up and spreading out the elements of a comic over several pages.

Seeing if people would use these elements to create narrative.

How viewing these pages on the Internet would effect how people viewed these images.

I wondered whether looking at the images would create any visual illusions or patterns.

New Book - Amorphous Thoughts

Hi everyone,

It's been a long time since I've posted - but I've been hard at work wrapping up my latest project, Amorphous Thoughts. This book is a sequel to my 2008 book - Stray Thoughts. (Originally covered by this blog here)

You can read the whole book here.

There's a more detailed rundown of the project in the book itself - but I hope everyone enjoys it!

Brandl: Homage Silence

Inspired by Draw's Drawing Silence down below (the one with ballpoint pen), I made an homage to him. I stole part of his grid and used on my own image, a stone litho from a few years ago. Thanks Draw!

Brandl: Litho comic

Here's another recent 3-stone lithograph i made which exists as a print (one sheet) and as a leporello-folded comic book. It is titled Self-Reflexive Mark, with and obvious play on my name. It travels between abstraction and representation, beginning left with images of the three tools I used to make the piece (and usually use), traveling through some "homage" abstractions, to the self-portrait on the right, based on the full length, life-sized self-portrait painting in my last painting-installation, here only a "detail," my hand with the brush.

Spoor, a comic

This is an image of a three stone lithograph I made recently as a leporello/book/comic (it folds accordion-like on the gutters). It was inspired by my dog jumping into the "Brunnen" here in the summer to cool off, the water troughs farmers have with continuously running water. Then he jumps out and leaves a Pollock-like trail on the ground. 3 quarters abstract, then not.
