graphic novel by Rosaire Appel
"an unauthorized account"
Continuing to be intrigued by the language of abstract forms and by the possibility/ impossibility of narrative, I found myself entrenched in this project called "An Unauthorized Account." It will have several iterations based on the same imagery. Since it is 'unauthorized' who can determine which is the definitive version? So far it exists as a commercially printed book and as a book-collage, unique piece. Eventually it will be a video and an abstract wall-comic with gigantic speech balloons - or tiny ones.
commercially printed book, 9”x6”. 56 pages.
paperback $12
hardcover:: $20.00

books full of pictographic symbols
here's a page from Warja Lavater's (also known as Warja Honegger-Lavater) book Pictograms. Warja was a Swiss artist who made accordion books. More sample pages here. An edition of her book is in print. I found out about her at gramatologia.
& here's a page from Xu Bing's Book from the Ground. From an exhibition in Shanghai. It should have been published already, but doesn't appear to be available. The site www.bookfromtheground.com isn't working, however xubing.com is.
a few years ago, I posted about Wilfried Hou Je Bek's translation of parts of The Epic of Gilgamesh into the pictograms taught to Chimpanzees & Bonobos by ape researchers. The link to the complete PDF doesn't work any more, but there's an excerpt in here.

Album primo-avrilesque by Alphonse Allais
La BNF (French National Library) uploaded, in its website, gallica.fr, Alphonse Allais' Album primo-avrilesque few months ago. This book collects all "monochromes" of the french writer and member of Salon des Arts Incohérents. (You can see too inside a musical piece without note, longtime before Erwin Schulhoff and John Cage).
You can look or download the book here .
ps : Album primo-avrilesque = Album of first April.

Playboy Centerfold
The shallow depth of field of the photo creates some interesting abstraction. I turned three pages from this pictorial into comics.
