book cover by Michael Cope

here's the cover of Michael's novel Spiral of Fire (Africasouth, 1987), painted by the author.

apparently, this is the only thing he's done in this particular style.

he's an author, poet, painter, karate instructor, jewellery maker & Father.

the painted graphic music scores at http://www.cope.co.za/FineArt/Brush/brush%20music%20colour.htm are also close to the realm of abstract comics.

  1. That's cool. What is the book about, do you know?

  2. it's about the troubles in South Africa. lots of short sections, different narrative styles, quite experimental.

he's also written a hypertext graphic novel titled Rain: www.cope.co.za/poetry/Rain.htm, a kind of choose-your-own-adventure with a poem & illustration on each page, & a choice of where to go next. there are even sounds for some of the pages.

    very nice, but not abstract.
